    this is what Mavis Staples brings to the table. I mean, no one in music…in any genre, can touch her vocals. One of the all time great singers. And sadly, they dont make 'em like her, anymore.

  13. My mother, God rest her soul, use to tell me when she was a teen in Alabama she was The Staples when they were strictly a gospel act. Unfortunately I've never had the pleasure of seeing them live.

    The song just said "that the President won't stop air pollution".  It's now 2019 and this song is being sung in concert in 1972 – 47 years ago!!!  What has changed?  NOTHING, that's what.

    Young Mavis was clearly in a league by herself.  You don't just need to hear her, you can feel her.  The spirituality and effortless technique of her singing is very moving.

    This song is being sung to African Americans of course, but white people need to listen to it also. If white people really respected themselves they would logically respect black people. Respect for oneself and others is universal. Thanks you, Staples Singers. This is awesome
